Some travelers may assume rodeos are for those in the American south, but Canada has its fair share of ropers as well, and that won't be demonstrated anywhere better than at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Travelers on Alberta holidays may want to make some time in their schedules to check out this unique event, where some of the best in Canada will compete in a myriad of competitions. Last year's festival saw cowboys compete in steer wrestling, tie-down and team roping, bareback riding, ladies' barrel racing and everyones' favorite, bull riding.

This year's competition proves to be just as fierce, as all-round champion Kyle Thomson looks to defend his crown against some hungry challengers. The event draws some of the best Canadian cowboys to compete for the title, as well as a few international competitors looking to make a name for themselves.

There's lots to do in Edmonton and the event goes on for five days, so even if travelers only want to stay for a day or so it could be worth a visit. This year's event will take place between the 10th and the 14th of November, but if the rodeo is as popular as previous years, tickets will go quickly.
