Food festivals on Prince Edward Island

Travelers who have been on Prince Edward Island vacations know the charms of the region, but the fall is an especially great time to visit for one reason: food.
Prince Edward Island plays host to a variety of food and culinary events during the month of September, as the island is transformed into a gastronomic paradise. Foodies will find a lot to love here, as the "Fall Flavors Festival" combines 250 separate events under one banner that runs for the entire month.
Chef Michael Smith, host of Food Network's "Chef Abroad" series, has been named as the host of the festival, and will appear at several of the larger events. Smith will be on hand for September 10th's "Chef On Board" event, along with the "Picnic in the Park" on the 25th and "Farm Day in the City" on the 26th, along with a smattering of other appearances.
There are plenty of other events that promise to be fun, whether its lobster fishing, clam digging or massive cookouts. Travelers should also mark their calendars for the Shellfish Festival on the weekend of the 17th, as chefs compete in chowder cook offs and other events - with tasty results.
