Fans of jazz will soon be able to enjoy the smooth sounds of their favorite musicians in the clean mountain air of British Columbia, as a new music festival is being planned for later this year in Whistler.

"Jazz on the Mountain" is now slated for Labor Day weekend, September 2nd through the 4th, according to the Whistler Question. The festival is the brainchild of longtime jazz fan Arnold Schwisberg, who was previously involved in orchestrating similar music events for Toronto and Montreal.

Schwisberg has been able to acquire a major star for the inaugural festival, as Kevin Eubanks, of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" fame, will be playing at the festival. Other jazz luminaries slated to appear include Stanley Jordan, Oliver Jones and Gary Burton.

The new event will use three venues in Whistler; Millennium Place, Olympic Plaza and the Village. Schwisberg, who has lived in Whistler for several years, says he has been trying to organize a jazz festival for the town since 2004.

"I realized that it would be an incredible place for a jazz festival, and I had been meeting people in Whistler and making friends and finding out who are the people to work with to launch an event of this magnitude," he told the news source.

Travelers who love jazz may want to be sure that their Canada vacation includes some time in Whistler over Labor Day weekend, as this festival looks like it will be a memorable event.
