This journey is our ultimate 'bear' Canada vacations journey - and possibly North America's best safari!
On the west coast of British Columbia in the Fall, salmon return to spawn…
Attracting predators like Grizzly Bears, Bald Eagles and Orca (Killer) Whales…
As well as studying Grizzlies up close, you'll get out on the ocean with the whales…
A Grizzly Bear family comes down to the water to find returning salmon.
An aerial view of the lodge we use for observing the Grizzlies.
The dining room of the lodge.
Then as a wonderful comparison, you'll fly far north … and a very different world.
Here, on the edge of Hudson Bay, you'll go on safari in a 'Tundra Buggy'…
And learn if this is play or fighting - from an expert naturalist.
You can also choose to take a helicopter ride over the tundra and the bears…
You can also try dogsledding - and learn about the life of a sled-dog...

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Canada Vacation Package Begins - Vancouver
The perfect combination of nature and big city, it’s no wonder that Vancouver’s population continues to grow. Depending on your arrival time, you might want to just relax and watch the world go by with latte in hand, or get out and explore on foot or by bicycle. Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 2 Fly to the Great Bear Rainforest
A short flight from Vancouver takes you to the town of Port Hardy where you will then be transferred to a float plane dock for your float plane adventure to Great Bear Nature Lodge. The lodge is located in the Great Bear Rainforest, which is home to a significant concentration of coastal grizzly bears. You’ll have your first grizzly bear viewing experience this later afternoon.

Days 3 & 4 Up Close with Grizzly Bears
You have 2 full days of viewing the bears and enjoying other activities offered at the lodge. The bears are generally most active in the early morning and late afternoon hours, which is when your viewing sessions will occur. Other activities to enjoy in the afternoon are interpretive walks or boat excursions.

Day 5 Great Bear Lodge to Port Hardy
Wake this morning and step out of the lodge into the fresh crisp air - the silence is calming. Fly by float plane back to Poert Hardy, where you will spend the night.

Day 6 Port Hardy to Vancouver
Fly back to Vancouver this morning where you can spend the rest of the day enjoying the sights. Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 7 - Vancouver to Winnipeg
Spend a leisurely morning in our beautiful West Coast city, before boarding a flight to Winnipeg. Meet your group and guide this evening at your Winnipeg hotel, before your polar bear adventure begins early tomorrow morning.

Day 8 Winnipeg to Churchill
Today is the day you head north - Churchill is located on the western edge of Hudson Bay. A guided tour of town and a visit to the Eskimo Museum gives you a complete introduction northern life and culture. Overnight in Churchill.

Days 9 & 10 Encounters with Polar Bears
Get almost nose-to-nose with one of the most feared predators in the world. Luckily you will be safe and comfortable in your ‘Tundra Buggy’. With an expert guide and the convenience of small groups your experience will be truly memorable.

Optional Helicopter Flight Over the Tundra - Customize Your Canada Vacation
Ask your Fresh Tracks specialist about including a scenic helicopter flight over the tundra. You will see the entire extent of Churchill’s wild beauty - its rugged coastline, the mouth of the Churchill River, forest to the south, and treeless tundra to the north. The chances of spotting wildlife - caribou and polar bears - are excellent - and you may also visit Nunalla, an abandoned Hudson Bay Company trading post with a fascinating history.

Day 11 Dogsledding and Inuit Life
Experience Inuit culture on your Canada vacation package - learn more about their life and culture with a dogsledding adventure and visit to the interpretive Centre. Illustrating the history and wildlife of the Arctic the centre highlights the unique culture of the people who live here. Take an afternoon flight back to Winnipeg for the last night of your vacation.

Day 12 Depart Winnipeg
Much too soon you leave the nature of Canada behind as your Polar Bear and Grizzly Bear vacation package comes to an end.

Note: The order of events will vary at the discretion of your guides - based on their expert knowledge of wildlife behavior at the time and their desire to give you the best experience possible.
