Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 - Your Canada Vacation Package Begins - Arrive in Halifax
You will be met by your private driver at Halifax airport where you will be transported to your downtown hotel. Check into your hotel in the heart of the old town to relax after your journey.
Day 2 - Explore Halifax
Halifax is a bustling port with a colorful history and today enjoy a morning city tour which will get you acquainted with sites such as Citadel Hill National Historic Site and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, famous for its poignant collection of artifacts from The Titanic. This afternoon, feel the thrill of sailing the Halifax harbor on a Tall Ship, hearing the wind hit the sails and the timbers creak beneath you. Overnight in Halifax.
Day 3 - Halifax to Lunenburg
Depart Halifax and drive the south shore along the Lighthouse Route. En route visit Peggy’s Cove, a picturesque fishing village surrounded by bare granite and coastal barrens and home to Nova Scotia’s most visited lighthouse. Continue on to Mahone Bay, a relaxing seaside town re-known for its quiet beauty and internationally known churches. Further along the route you will arrive in Lunenburg, a unique town in terms of architecture and now an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunenburg is the birthplace of the famous Bluenose built in 1921. Whilst here, visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, situated on the waterfront and the Lunenburg Marine Park – Atlantic Canada’s first. Overnight in Lunenburg.
Day 4 - Lunenburg to Kejimkujik National Park
This morning you’ll take a “Trot in Time” on horse and buggy – a 35 minute journey from the waterfront area through the streets to view the beautiful town of Lunenburg. You’ll be thrilled to hear the stories and lore of the town locals, whilst admiring the scenery. In the afternoon, depart Lunenburg and drive north into spectacular Kejimkujik National Park, with walking trails to suit all levels and some of the best canoeing in Atlantic Canada. Overnight Kejimkujik National Park.
Day 5 - Kejimkujik National Park
This morning explore further, the delights of this beautiful park. Visit the excellent visitor centre, which houses replicas of the native tools found by archaeologists dating back 4500 years ago. A pair of sturdy shoes and a map are all you need to escape on foot in Kejimkujik. There is a trail here for everyone. Wander through groves of 300-year-old hemlock trees, follow a trail to an abandoned gold mine, or visit an overgrown farm. The main park has 15 day trails to choose from ranging from short riverside strolls to half-day hikes. Overnight Kejimkujik National Park.
Day 6 - Kejimkujik National Park to Annapolis Royal
Depart Kejimkujik and drive north to Annapolis Royal which boasts a spectacular view of the Bay of Fundy. The Annapolis Valley area is known as wine country, so be sure to visit one of the may winery’s in the area. Sightseeing suggestions while you are in the area is to visit the Fort Anne National Historic Site, Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, Garrison Cemetery and the HMCS/CFB Cornwallis Military Museum to name but a few. Overnight Annapolis Royal.
Day 7 – Digby to Annapolis Royal
Today’s highlight of your vacation package is a whale & bird-watching cruise to Brier Island, where you join a scientific survey of an area teeming with wildlife - including humpback, fin and endangered right whales, as well as dolphins, porpoises and a cacophony of seabirds.
In the afternoon If time permits take time to visit nearby Digby and see one of the many historical sites in Digby including the Admiral Digby Museum which houses unique displays and photographs of Digby’s seafaring and cultural history. It also boasts one of the largest genealogy departments in western Nova Scotia. The museum also offers a Historic Walking Tour of Digby three evenings a week all summer. Overnight Annapolis Royal.
Day 8 – Annapolis Royal to Wolfville
Depart Annapolis Royal along the Fundy shore following the Evangeline Trail East. The history of Grand Pré, the Acadian past and of the fictional character "Evangeline" is an interesting one filled with history and courage. Throughout the Evangeline region, you will be reminded of the story of the tragic "Expulsion of the Acadians". If time permits, stop and visit some of the small, charming communities on your way before continuing on to Wolfville. This charming university town is known as the cultural and intellectual centre of the valley and is home to many classic shops, boutiques and fine dining. Overnight in Wolfville.
Day 9 - Wolfville
Today explore the area of Wolfville further. Highlights include: Randall House Historical Museum, the Old Burying Ground (which dates back to the 1760's), the Robie Tufts Nature Centre and Prescott House Museum. A tour of Grand Pre Wines is highly recommended – you can enjoy the full winery experience: taste the wines and learn about grape growing, also visit the wine shop where you will also find local arts, crafts and wine accessories. If time permits why not experience the Evangeline Express train ride for a nostalgic journey between Windsor and Wolfville and make sure that you stop and savor the view of the world's highest tides from the quaint fishing village of Hall’s Harbour. Overnight in Wolfville.
Day 10 - Wolfville to Tatamagouche
Depart Wolfville and continue along the Glooscap Trail on to Truro – located in the centre of the province and known as the ‘hub of Nova Scotia’. Truro’s location at the very tip of the Bay of Fundy makes it an excellent viewing area for the “tidal bore”– an amazing natural phenomenon. From Truro continue on to Tatamagouche located on the Sunrise Trail. Tatamagouche is a vibrant community where meeting of old and new is in harmony and old Victorian homes and businesses mix with modern homes and facilities. Overnight Tatamagouche.
Day 11 - Tatamagouche
Use Tatamagouche as a base to explore the Northumberland Shore, and it’s highland Scottish ancestry. Places to visit include the Fraser Cultural Centre, Sunrise Trail Museum, Cumberland County Museum, Balmoral Grist Mill and the Sutherland Stream Mill. For the more adventurous – Tatamagouche is the water sports capital of Nova Scotia. Enthusiasts canl enjoy swimming, boating, sailing, kayaking, and wind surfing on Tatamagouche Bay. Overnight in Tatamagouche.
Day 12 - Tatamagouche to Baddeck and Cape Breton
Depart Tatamagouche and continue along the Northumberland Shore and onto Pictou County and to the town of Pictou - the birthplace of New Scotland. Continue over to Cape Breton via the Canso Causeway. Your journey completes at Baddeck situated on the Bras d’Or Lakes. The most notable resident was Alexander Graham Bell and you can visit the National Historic Site named after him. Overnight in Baddeck.
Day 13 - Baddeck
Today explore the famous Cabot Trail, one of the most spectacular drives in all of Canada. The trail winds around the rocky splendours of Cape Breton’s northern shore, ascending to the incredible plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. For the more adventurous – Cape Breton Highlands National Park has 26 hiking trails ranging from 20-minute short walks to challenging hikes through stunning mountain and coastal landscapes. Overnight Baddeck.
Day 14 - Baddeck to Charlos Cove
Depart Baddeck and explore the southern shore of Cape Breton. En route visit the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, the largest historical reconstruction in North America. Continue on to Charlos Cove via the Canso Causeway, passing through many picturesque villages including Guysborough - an inviting community with distinctive architecture overlooking Chedabucto Bay. Guysborough is home to “Wilma the Beluga Whale” - a resident for several years! Overnight in Charlos Cove.
Day 15 - Canada Vacation ends - Charlos Cove to Halifax, and Farewell!
Depart Charlos Cove and take time to visit both Goldboro – once the best gold mining district in the province, and Sherbrooke Village – home of the fascinating living history museum showcasing village life in old Nova Scotia. Depart Sherbrooke Village and take a leisurely drive back to Halifax. En route visit Musquodoboit Harbour & Valley – a haven for nature lovers, and Martinique Beach – the longest beach in the province. Return back to Halifax Airport, where you will drop off your car at the airport.
