Why we don't do online booking?

Online booking sites prefer you do not bother them at all. Our approach is completely the opposite – instead we put visitors directly in touch with our Canadian travel insiders because we believe the best vacations are personal.

Itinerary

Please note, like most of our Canada rail packages & tours, this railway vacation can be customized to your needs - just ask one of our local experts when you call.

Eastbound itinerary is shown. A westbound itinerary is also available.

Day 1 – Arrive in Vancouver
Vancouver is considered to be one of the most desirable places to live in the world - it is rich with culture, art, cuisine and diversity while being surrounded by wild mountains, oceans and forests. Walk out of the airport and right into your own personal private vehicle. Your driver will help orient you to our hometown.

Feature Dinner in Vancouver
Did you know Vancouver is one of the top culinary destinations in the world? We want to make sure you don’t eat at the tourist trap restaurant across the street from your hotel, rather have the best dining experience in a beautiful setting. Included is a meal at a scenic waterfront location - one of our favorite dining spots!

Day 2 – Explore Vancouver
Today you have 3 options to choose from to help you enjoy Vancouver.

• Option 1: Kayaking Tour from Granville Island
Discover Vancouver on a small group kayak tour of False Creek leaving from Granville Island. Watch out for herons, seals and eagles as you explore Vancouver’s unique inner harbor area.
Activity rating: Moderate

• Option 2: Vancouver Tour by Bicycle
The bike is a Vancouverites favourite mode of transport! Travel along the extensive cycle lane network in Vancouver and discover the city like a local. Explore the best of Vancouver food, history, and culture. Visit the Stanley Park seawall, grab a snack at Granville Island Public Market and see historic Gastown and Chinatown.
Activity rating: Moderate

• Option 3: Vancouver by Land, Sea, and Air
Get a taste of the West Coast. Start from downtown Vancouver on a shuttle to Horseshoe Bay. Then, get a thrill on a scenic zodiac tour – watch for seals, eagles and other marine wildlife as you zip along the water. Later, enjoy a delicious meal on charming Bowen Island. Finally, have your camera ready for a scenic seaplane flight back to downtown Vancouver.
Activity rating: Moderate

Day 3 – On the Rocky Mountaineer – Vancouver to Kamloops
The smell of freshly roasted coffee and the crisp morning air rejuvenates you as the Rocky Mountaineer train pulls out of Vancouver. The train whistle sounds and your amazing Canadian train journey begins.

On the first leg of your trip, you will travel through the interior of British Columbia and marvel at the steep walls of Fraser Canyon and the thundering water of Hell’s Gate. Relax in the laidback and luxurious atmosphere of the train and watch the views go by. The train will arrive in the small and welcoming town of Kamloops where you will stay overnight.

Insider tip: For those looking for a classic sleeper train experience, ask us to substitute in the ‘Canadian Train’ from Vancouver to Jasper. Spend an additional day at your leisure in Vancouver before boarding the train in the evening and settling into your cozy private cabin.

Day 4 – On the Rocky Mountaineer – Kamloops to Jasper
On your second day aboard the Rocky Mountaineer, the scenery gets even more spectacular as you approach the Rocky Mountains. Enjoy another day of great food, service, and amazing scenery. The train pulls into the station in Jasper this afternoon.

Upon arrival, pick up your rental car and begin an exciting self-drive through the Rockies. Overnight in Jasper.

Day 5 – In the Canadian Wilderness – Jasper Adventure
Spend the day exploring all the exciting opportunities of Jasper National Park.

You have
3 options to choose from today to help you explore Jasper.

• Option 1: Private Nature Walk or Hike
Explore Jasper National Park on a professionally guided interpretive walk or hike that can be suited to your fitness level. Enjoy plenty of time for photos and discussion. See wildlife, get close to rare alpine wildflowers, and stunning valley views.
Activity rating: Moderate to Challenging (suited to your level)

• Option 2: Evening Canoe Paddle
Breathe deeply as you glide gently along a beautiful Rocky Mountain lake in a traditional canoe as the sun begins to drop behind the mountains. Watch for fish breaking the surface of the still water, the call of a loon, the sighting of beaver, or perhaps a moose grazing, as your guide steers the way. What a peaceful way to end your day.
Activity rating:
Moderate

• Option 3: Guided Rock Climbing Experience
Whether you’re an avid climber or a first timer, Jasper has the perfect limestone wall for rock climbing, only a short distance from Jasper along the Athabasca River. Receive expert coaching and challenge yourself as you learn how to rappel on a small group tour. No experience is necessary.
Activity rating: Moderate (Can you climb a ladder or go for a short run or hike?)

Day 6 – The Icefields Parkway – Jasper to Emerald Lake
Drive along what is surely one of the most scenic mountain roads in the world - the Icefields Parkway.

You have
3 options to choose from to help you discover the Icefields today.

• Option 1: Guided Icewalk along the Athabasca Glacier
Walk along the Columbia Icefields - the largest mass of ice in the Rocky Mountains. The most accessible part of the Icefields is the Athabasca Glacier, where you can venture by foot. Join a guide and small group of travellers on a hike along the glacier – experience a place few people get to see firsthand.
Activity rating: Moderate

• Option 2:
Icefields Helicopter Experience
Get away from the crowds and take a helicopter tour for an amazing view. Leave from the Icefields base and soar over Cline Pass - over glaciers and waterfalls, including a spectacular 900ft waterfall flowing from aqua green lakes!
Activity rating: Easy

• Option 3: Icefields Heli-Hike Experience
Discover the Icefields from a different vantage point on a helicopter tour and guided heli-walk. Leave from an exclusive Icefields base and soar over stunning glaciers and waterfalls. Your pilot will land in an area few have access to and lead you on a guided alpine walk.
Activity rating: Moderate

Your drive concludes at the Emerald Lake Lodge where you will spend the next two nights.

Feature Dinner at Emerald Lake
This evening you’ll relax and refresh with a gourmet dining experience. Enjoy the lake views and attentive service as you indulge in a 3-course meal.

Day 7 – Explore Yoho National Park
The day is free to explore at your leisure. Emerald Lake is a top destination in Yoho National Park, with an unparalleled diversity of activities and landscapes. Choose from activities like hiking, canoeing or wildlife viewing. The hike around the lake is one of the least strenuous but most rewarding.

Insider Tip: Add on a Rafting Tour on the Kicking Horse River
Get a thrill on the Kicking Horse River with a rafting tour. Work with fellow paddlers to get past up to class 4+ rapids. After building up an appetite, enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch. Activity rating: Moderate

Day 8 – Yoho National Park to Banff
Today you head along the scenic road to Banff - we recommend stopping in for a visit at the famous Lake Louise on your way. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lake Louise is known as Canada’s emerald of the Rockies. Ask us for our
Lake Louise activity menu - choose activities such as a scenic canoe paddle, Lake Louise gondola, a guided hike, or Afternoon Tea.

After soaking in the mountain views, continue your drive to Banff. A lively mountain town with great restaurants, Banff is a welcome change of pace. Overnight in Banff.

Day 9 – Explore Banff
Head out for a day of exploration in Banff. Enjoy the views from the Banff Gondola as it glides to the top of Sulphur Mountain.

You also have
3 options today to help you explore Banff today.

• Option 1: Guided Hike in Sunshine Meadows
Head to the top of the world and away from the crowds at Sunshine Meadows, one of the most stunning alpine settings in the Canadian Rockies. Join a guide along the network of trails that wind their way around the meadows on the mountain top.
Activity rating: Moderate

• Option 2: Via Ferrata Tour
Test your limits today with a climb up Mt. Norquay! You tour begins with a lesson on the equipment, before heading up into the mountains. This 4-hour tour is a great introduction to the world of Via Ferrata. An experienced guide leads you along a 1.4km route - reaching a height of 2300 metres above sea level.
Activity rating: Challenging

• Option 3: Cave Tour
Venture into an underground world in this introduction to caving. Spend approximately two hours underground, discovering prehistoric bones and investigating ancient cave formations. This will be an unforgettable experience.
Activity rating: Moderate

Insider tip: We recommend taking an evening gondola ride, once the crowds have dispersed for the day.
