Why we don't do online booking?

Online booking sites prefer you do not bother them at all. Our approach is completely the opposite – instead we put visitors directly in touch with our Canadian travel insiders because we believe the best vacations are personal.

Please note, like most of our Canada rail packages & tours, this railway vacation can be customized to your needs just ask one of our local experts when you call.

Eastbound itinerary is shown. A westbound itinerary is also available.

Day 1 – Arrive in Vancouver
Start your tour in Vancouver, a city that often tops lists of the “Most Desirable Places to Live in the World.” This coastal metropolis has a laid-back vibe, a thriving art scene and stunning surroundings of mountains and ocean. Why not start your trip with a guided bicycle tour of Vancouver so that you can see all that the city has to offer? Or, simply sit back and enjoy some excellent cuisine in the fresh air on the patio of one of Vancouver’s best restaurants.

Feature Dinner in Vancouver
You have travelled all day, and we want to make sure you eat at a spot that encapsulates the best of Vancouver. Enjoy dinner at a harbourfront restaurant, and watch majestic seaplanes coming into land all while enjoying the best of West Coast cuisine. Your vacation is off to a great start!

Day 2 – Rocky Mountaineer – Vancouver to Kamloops
Watch the early morning skies through the train windows as you eat your freshly cooked breakfast and sip your coffee. This morning the Rocky Mountaineer leaves Vancouver and ventures deep into the rugged wilderness of the Canadian Rockies.

As you relax and dine in comfort on the luxurious train, feast your eyes on the stunning landscapes outside. Climb the steep incline of Fraser Canyon and marvel at the spectacular rush of water at Hell’s Gate. Continue along to the dry landscapes of the desert interior and arrive in Kamloops in the late afternoon. Enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of this small Canadian town.

Day 3 – On the Rocky Mountaineer Train
Wake up buzzing with excitement on the train this morning - this is the day when you will see the Canadian Rockies for the first time! As the train weaves through incredible landscapes hewn from jagged rock and dotted with wind-swept pines, you can listen to commentary about the history of the region and the railway.

There is a good chance you might spot one of the wild residents of the area, from bald eagles to bears or elk, so keep a look out! The train travels into the remarkable Spiral Tunnels, passageways that were blasted directly through the mountains. As you exit the dark tunnels you will emerge to find yourself surrounded by rugged snowcapped peaks that take your breath away. Stay overnight in a Banff hotel.

Day 4 – In the Canadian Rockies – Explore Banff
Fill your lungs with cool, fresh Rockies air and head out for a day of exploration.

You have
3 options to choose from today to help you enjoy Banff to its fullest:

• Option 1:
Banff Sightseeing Tour
Explore the historic sights, hear the folklore, and visit scenic viewpoints surrounding the Banff town site in a small group bus tour.
Activity rating: Easy

• Option 2:
Sunrise Photography Tour
Wake up early to experience the magical wilderness of Banff National Park at sunrise. Explore with a private guide and learn how to take great photos. Ideal for the amateur photographer wanting to increase their skills with a manual camera. This is a sure way to make friends and family at home jealous!
Activity rating: Moderate

• Option 3:
Banff Heli-Hike and Picnic
Soar above majestic peaks and get away from the crowds of Banff on a guided heli-hike and picnic. Marvel at pristine and breathtaking vistas that will leave you speechless.
Activity rating: Moderate

No matter how you choose to explore, all guests have the opportunity to glide up to the top of Sulphur Mountain in a gondola. Once at the top, you have a panoramic view of the gargantuan mountains and the expanse of the Bow Valley.

Insider tip:
We recommend an evening gondola ride, once the crowds have dispersed for the day.

Day 5 – Head Deeper into the Rockies – Banff to Lake Louise
Explore even deeper into the Rockies and visit stunning Lake Louise, a mirror-like lake of pale turquoise glacier water surrounded by icy mountain peaks. This lake is awe-inspiring and hiking around it or paddling across it in a canoe is an essential Rocky Mountain experience.

Upon arrival in the Lake Louise area, you can either choose to stay at the iconic Chateau Lake Louise, or at the intimate Moraine Lake Lodge.

Feature Dinner
After a day of touring, enjoy a prearranged dinner at Lake Louise or Moraine Lake! Relax and unwind with 5-star cuisine and attentive service. Take a moment to soak in the incredible lake views.

Day 6 – Depart Calgary
Your Canadian adventure comes to an end today, but your memories of the gorgeous Rocky Mountains will last for a lifetime. Head to the Calgary airport today to catch your flight home.

Common Questions

Will it be cold when I visit Canada in summer?

The temperature varies from mild to hot, depending on location. Northern Canada will range between 50°F to 64°F (10°C – 18°C) in summer. The interior of BC, prairies, Ontario and Quebec can reach temperatures around 95°F (35°C). Canada's west coast, mountain regions, and Maritimes enjoy milder summer temperatures. They range on average from 59°F to 77°F (15°C – 25°C).

What are the best ways to travel around Canada on my vacation?

Canada has a network of spectacular roadways, train routes, ferry crossings, and float planes. We can arrange for you to travel by car or to sit back and relax.

Is it safe to drive in the mountains?

New visitors will drive with ease because of the wide and well maintained roadways. We'll ensure your trip includes the most spectacular and safest routes throughout your trip.

When is the best time to see wildlife?

That depends on the destination and type. As a rule, the main feeding and migration seasons are best for wildlife experiences. Tell us which animals interest you and we'll make your trip coincide with the best viewing season.

Are your tours escorted?

No, but you'll feel like it is with all your connections and experiences prearranged. Our clients love the freedom and flexibility it gives them. Some of our wildlife experiences are small group tours led by specialist guides.

The trip was wonderful! The weather was great and we saw a lot of wildlife from the train and on the road in Alberta. Of course, the mountain scenery was spectacular. Hotels - Georgian Court was wonderful, the hotel in Kamloops,... read more the Thompson, was also very nice. The Rundle Stone Lodge was fine, but we had an inside room, which meant that, although we had a window, it looked over an inside courtyard, so the room was like a cave! You probably didn't know a hotel could have an inside room! Outside of being dark, the room was fine. The Chateau Lake Louise - I have always wanted to stay at one of the chalets built by the railroad in Glacier National Park in Montana, and this fulfilled my dream! The Rocky Mountaineer was great. Our hostess Jasmine did a wonderful job. The food was good and certainly adequate. They had me when I ordered tea and received a hot cup of tea rather than a tea bag & a cup of tepid water! They have their own blend of tea. The tours in Banff were very good. Both guides worked hard to give a good tour with lots of information. They even gave us maple cookies! On the longer tour we had hot chocolate. The gondola ride was a pleasant surprise for Don. I hadn't really said much about it. Naturally, he wanted to study it to see how it worked! The view was magnificent. We did not have long lines, which was wonderful. We saw lots of wildlife. The only thing we didn't see was a mountain goat. We even saw a grizzly! I certainly didn't expect that. It was a great trip, and one I will definitely recommend to friends and family.
