Common Questions

  • Is this an escorted tour?

Our vacations are not typically 'escorted.' We combine the best of both worlds – the reassurance of seamless connections, customer service support, and scheduled activities, plus the freedom of 'independent' travel. You are not tied into a specific group, or a rigid daily itinerary. This allows us to personalize your trip to suit your occasion, interests, and timeframe.

  • Can this trip be made shorter or longer?

Absolutely! We personalize all our clients' trips to fit their exact tastes and needs. You can add days at locations that you'd like to explore and spend more time at. Or leave out certain areas that don't interest you as much. Discuss your travel goals with our Canadian Insiders who make sure that your trip fits your needs and budget.

  • Can I customize this trip?

Your trip can be as rich as you'd like, and completely arranged around your interests and needs. The greatest benefit of working with us is our local knowledge. You can get your FREE personalized trip plan and decide what you'd like to see and do.

If your trip is a special occasion, we'll make sure it is unforgettable. Or if you're traveling with a group, we'll take care of the logistics so you can share time together stress-free.

  • Am I on the train the whole time?

All of our trips include stops to get off the train to explore Canada's beautiful locations, national parks and unique cities. However, if you're keen to maximize your time onboard, we'll pair you up with the perfect train experience.

  • Where am I staying on this trip?

You'll be staying at various local three to five star hotels or lodges along your route, some of which are very iconic properties with great locations, views and history. All our accommodations are carefully selected by our Canadian Insiders. We'll make sure that wherever you stay, you get the best value and comfort based on the seasonal availability.

  • What is the train experience like?

Because most Canadians typically do not use the train for commuting (as in the US or Europe), the two main rail providers here are driven by tourism. You'll experience the romance of true trans-continental rail travel, with a wide selection of services, accommodation types, and great food.

  • How much does my trip cost?

All our trips are personalized to fit our clients' schedule and budget. The price of your trip generally depends on the travel season, train service, accommodations, and the sightseeing tours you take. Please request your personalized quote which will provide you with the detailed information you need.

  • What is included in the price?

Typically we include and pre-book all your main trip components so you don't have to worry about your connections, places to stay, or activities on your trip. You'll receive your detailed digital travel documents, and our Canadian Insiders remain at your disposal throughout your trip to answer any questions.

  • What are the best ways to travel around Canada?

Canada has a network of spectacular roadways, train routes, ferry crossings, and float planes. We can arrange for you to travel by car or to sit back and relax.

  • When is the best time to see wildlife?

That depends on the destination and type. As a rule, the main feeding and migration seasons are best for wildlife experiences. Tell us which animals interest you and we'll make your trip coincide with the best viewing season.

  • Will it be cold when I visit Canada in summer?

The temperature varies from mild to hot, depending on location. Canada's west coast, mountain regions, and Maritimes enjoy milder summer temperatures. They range on average from 59°F to 77°F (15°C – 25°C). The interior of British Columbia, prairies, Ontario and Quebec can reach temperatures around 95°F (35°C). Northern Canada will range between 50°F to 64°F (10°C – 18°C) in summer.

Wonderful planning and attention to detail. We didn't have to worry about a thing. Everything was organized down to the last detail. Everyone who was to meet us was there ahead of time so that we didn't have to worry about transportation. All details were clearly written, and it was wonderful to know when gratuities were included. The hotels chosen could not have been nicer. In all, it was a wonderful trip. I have told friends what a great company you have, and they have asked for your contact information. We could not have been more satisfied with our trip!

This was our first visit to Canada. Fresh Tracks customized our trip and helped us make unforgettable memories. This is how vacation planning is meant to be. Thank you! I was very pleased with the booking experience. Greg explained all the details, took time to customize my trip and walk me through from start to finish. The process was very easy. Greg was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I would work with him again for another trip.

The ability to customize the trip was great!

Our trip was enjoyable, interesting and nicely paced. No need to be up at the crack of dawn to be on a bus by 7:00 or 8:00. The tour start times and departures allowed for a leisurely breakfast and time to smell the roses. The ability to customize the trip was great!

I could not have asked for better service throughout the process

I could not have asked for better service throughout the process. During our initial phone conversation, Eva listened to our preferences (we are quiet people who like history/literature) and planned everything geared to jive with that. The hotels were quiet and low-key and totally in-line with our personalities. Fantastique is how I would describe the trip. My husband and I remarked repeatedly that everything was well-planned and transitions (from airport to hotel to train and back) were smooth. We felt like celebrities being picked up by Limousine Select - beautiful cars, stylish and polite gentlemen, and always on time. The walking tours were exceptional! There isn't a single thing we would change. Not only can I not wait to go on another Fresh Tracks trip, I cannot wait to recommend the company to my friends and family.

Our trip was fantastic. Fresh Tracks Canada made the trip with my 9 year old grandson seamlessly wonderful. Every accommodation and transfer was made with ease. We both had a marvellous time because of your care and precision in planning, and everyone I spoke with was lovely, positive and helpful. I thank you for making this a trip this grandmother and grandchild will remember with extra special love and gratitude.

Fresh Tracks Canada is so well coordinated and everything went very smoothly. We had a wonderful time in a beautiful place. Had a fabulous dinner at Le Continental on our last night in Quebec. They cooked everything at our table including my favorite dessert, Cherries Jubilee. Can't wait for the next one.

    The train travel was wonderful

We enjoyed our vacation to Eastern Canada very much; if anything it was maybe a little too short. The train travel was wonderful - perhaps the highlight. Traveling "Business Plus" class enhanced the experience immensely. Both hotels were, of course, very nice. We upgraded to Presidential Gold, which was only a modest additional amount, and well worth it. The walking tour in Toronto was really fun, as was the bicycle tour in Quebec City. All things considered, this was a very nice trip, which provided lots of great photos and great memories. We had a good time.

Everything was so well taken care of

The trip was fantastic! Everything was so well taken care of that we didn't have to worry about any piece of the trip. All people with whom we interacted were punctual, knowledgeable, and very friendly. Our hotels were beautiful as well and situated perfectly within Montreal and Quebec City! You took all the searching time and worry from the experience :) A full bonus was the amazing amount of snow and chill over Christmas and the New Year celebrations! The only piece we weren't too happy about was the meal on the Via Rail train. We fly very often, and for this trip we had to fly from Australia to Canada, within Canada, and back to Australia, so we eat many 'travel' meals. A business class three-course meal is expected to be well above what was offered on the train, as what we received was economy at best. I also think we ate such amazing meals throughout our entire Canadian holiday that that one highlighting our Eastern Canadian trip was disappointing. Our family was impressed with the stories we told upon return and the level of service we experienced with you and everyone involved throughout the actual trip.

Our trip was great! I found it almost unbelievable but every reservation and train ticket was perfect! We just had to be in the right place at the right time! The hotels also were very nice. Toronto Marriott had a nice fruit and nut tray for our 50th anniversay and Quebec's Victoria upgraded us to a suite. It was soooooooo nice. Thank you so much for all your attention to detail and most of all for being nice. We really appreciated it. You and Fresh Tracks Canada made everything simple. Thank you very much.

We had a wonderful time on our trip to Montreal and Quebec City! Montreal was nice, but we loved Quebec City. Everything was great there, but the weather. It was rainy and cold, but we still had a great time. The train ride to Quebec City was also alot of fun. The Chateau Frontenac was outstanding. We couldn't have ask for a better hotel. The tours in both cities were interesting and informative. Thank you so much for all your help. We will definitely use Fresh Tracks Canada again.

We loved the trip! The train ride was lovely with better food and smoother ride than Amtrak. The Canadian people were charming and helpful and the food was exquisite. We loved Place d'Arms, the rooms, location and complimentary breakfast in that gorgeous dining area. We ate at Modavie and the food and atmosphere was wonderful. Tours were wonderful also. We had an 18th floor room overlooking the seaway at the Frontenac and the architecture with the views was fabulous. We ate at Michaelangelo in Saint Foy - fabulous. Thanks for everything, you are very professional and I have recommended you to my friends.

We enjoyed this trip a lot

We had a wonderful trip in Quebec. Although it snowed and rained 60% of the time, it did not dampen the spirits of my daughter and I. What we liked: (1) The location of the hotels - Days Inn in Montreal and Hotel Pur in Quebec City are both excellent. We loved the fact we could basically walk to all the main attractions, the basilicas, the cafes, Underground, etc. (2) Tours in both cities were great too. The drivers were very knowledgeable and provided us with a lot of good information. (3) The food was most wonderful. We felt like we could have lived on croissants, crepes, and lattes alone. If only we had cafes, bakeries or patisseries down the street. What could be improved: If we could have had more info on transfer arrangements. I had to research on the internet about taxi and VIA Rail stations. Of course they are all close by and the hotel staff provided prompt service. Still, I think most people like to know exactly what would happen and the costs of these items before they start the trip. I have visited English Canada several times but have always felt like I have not really left the US. In Quebec, I was really in foreign land. Of course the fact that my daughter has studied French for 5 years helps. I could not pronounce or remember French names of streets/destinations and food. She got them all for me :-) Otherwise I may have felt a little lost. We enjoyed this trip a lot and would like to bring other family members to visit again. Thank you for arranging this wonderful trip.
