Overnight in St. John’s in a charming historic hotel.
Day 2 – The Avalon Region
Today, explore the enchanting Avalon region. Choose from the following 3 options:
• Option 1: Puffin and Whale Boat Cruise
Today, travel south to the beautiful Witless Bay Ecological Reserve with naturalist guides. Witless Bay is home to over 2.5 million seabirds including over 300,000 pairs of Atlantic Puffins, and is also one of the best feeding areas for whales in Atlantic Canada. When in season, you’ll see icebergs lazily float by.
Activity rating: Easy
• Option 2: Sea Kayaking
Stretch your legs (and arms) today on a private kayak tour along the Avalon Peninsula’s gorgeous coastline. Explore hidden coves and secret caves with a backdrop of icebergs, puffins, and whales and a delicious picnic lunch. Don’t forget your camera!

• Option 3: Ferryland Picnic

Day 3 – St. John’s to Trinity
Depart St. John’s and savour the drive to the tiny coastal town of Trinity, along the scenic Conception Bay coastal drive. On a clear day, you will be able to see the still active Bell Island Lighthouse. Make your way northeast to the Bonavista Peninsula and on to the cultural capital of Newfoundland – Trinity.
Feature Dinner in Trinity
We have arranged for a delectable meal at your accommodation’s acclaimed restaurant tonight – a welcome delight after a day of exploring! Overnight in Trinity.
Day 4 – Explore Trinity
Choose from the following 3 options to explore the area today:
• Option 1: Bonavista Historic Boat Tour
Join a local fisherman on a fascinating journey through time. Travel past the craggy cliffs and abandoned communities of enchanting Kerley's Harbour, Ireland's Eye, and British Harbour. Listen to stories of life in these tiny fishing communities and the ‘resettlement’ of thousands of Newfoundlanders in the mid-1900s. Your skipper will regale you with tales while you cruise past a backdrop of icebergs, whales, and sea birds (note - peak iceberg viewing occurs in June). Choose to return by boat or hike over the highlands and alongside tumbling streams.
Activity rating: Easy - Moderate
• Option 2: Trinity Historic Walking Tour
Let your guide immerse you in the stories of this 500-year-old town - unusual deaths, crimes and their punishments, tragic shipwrecks and other disasters. You’ll learn about the different peoples that contributed to Trinity’s history while meandering the paths and streets of the town.
Activity rating: Easy
• Option 3: Naturalist-Led Puffin Hike
On a 3-km walk, learn about heathland plant ecology and be captivated by the rugged beauty of the Bonavista Peninsula. At Puffin Island, you’ll be greeted by a chorus of seabird sounds mingling with the sound of waves crashing against the cliffs. If you are lucky you will get very close to puffins - sometimes just a few feet from them.
Activity rating: Moderate
Feature Dinner in Trinity
We have arranged yet another dinner in Trinity for you tonight at one of the best restaurants in town!
Insider tip: Ask us about the famous Rising Tide Theatre! Depending on which day of the week you visit, you can participate in one of their walking pageants through town, or indulge in a full dinner theatre.
Day 5 – Trinity to Fogo Island
Today you will depart Trinity and head west to rugged and wild Fogo Island and its tiny historic fishing villages. En route keep your eyes open for ospreys, eagles, lynx and moose. Situated where slabs of granite meet the moody North Atlantic, the luxurious Fogo Island Inn is an innovative community project, with 100% of profits being reinvested in the local economy.
You’ll be welcomed with a dinner this evening in the vaulted-ceiling dining room, offering unparalleled vistas of sunsets, storms, and the iceberg-littered Atlantic. All meals are included in your stay.
While at the inn, enjoy creative cuisine inspired by local ingredients. Your food will be harvested from the island’s peaty soils, foraged from the salt-sprayed shoreline and wild-berry patches, fished from local waters, and raised and hunted regionally. Overnight on Fogo Island.
Day 6 & 7 – Explore Fogo Island
The crowning jewel of Fogo is the inn, but that’s just the beginning of your experience on this isolated and beautiful island. The still-wild landscape has caribou to track, hills of berries to forage, nature trails to explore, and a fascinating cultural backdrop. Hiking, wildlife viewing, fishing, berry picking, cultural experiences and iceberg spotting are just a small selection of the activities available. Overnight on Fogo Island.
Day 8 – Fogo Island to St. John’s
Say goodbye to Fogo Island, as you return to the mainland. The drive back to St. John’s will take you a good part of the day, so be sure to go for a relaxing and celebratory farewell dinner on your last evening in St. John’s. Overnight in St. John’s.
Note - ask about the option to drop your car in Gander, and fly onwards from there!
