Sample Itinerary

Think of this itinerary as just a starting point. Our experienced Canadian Insiders will create a personalized experience for you that matches your schedule, travel style and budget.

Day 1 – Arrive in Vancouver
Welcome to Vancouver – the home of Fresh Tracks Canada! We love it here and we’re sure you will too! One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Vancouver is surrounded by towering mountains and sparkling ocean. Depending on your time of arrival, you can head downtown to enjoy the city and dine al fresco or get out on a guided bicycle tour of Vancouver.

Overnight in Vancouver in a conveniently located airport hotel.

Day 2 – Vancouver to Quadra Island
Soar over islands, sea and mountains on route to Campbell River. Once in Campbell River, you will be transferred via water taxi to Quadra Island, one of the northern Gulf Islands. Quadra is home to a lively, close-knit community from all walks of life and all parts of the world. This island is blessed with stunning natural beauty, beaches, parks, wildlife, and endless recreation adventure opportunities.

Overnight on Quadra Island.

Day 3 – Your Kayaking Adventure Begins!
Rise and shine ready for adventure! Journey up Discovery Passage and safely through the Seymour narrows, renowned for its treacherous tidal flows and whirlpools. Look out for sightings of porpoises, dolphins, sea lions, and whales! Eventually you will arrive in Blackfish Sound and get acquainted with your camp. This evening, indulge in a fresh salmon dinner and enjoy the sunset from the hot tub before heading to bed for your first evening in the wilderness.

Overnight at your glamping camp in Blackfish Sound.

Day 4 – Kayaking Blackfish Sound
After a hearty camp breakfast, your kayaking adventure continues. Paddle to one of the many pocket beaches for a picnic lunch, along the way there are plenty of opportunities for stretching and snacks, as well as time to explore the intricate shoreline. For the very brave, there is always the option of a dip into the chilly waters of Blackfish Sound, before a restorative soak in the hot tub!

Overnight at your glamping camp in Blackfish Sound.

Day 5 – Kayaking Blackfish Sound
Today, a covered vessel takes you further into Blackfish Sound, giving you the opportunity to cover areas beyond the reach of your kayak. Return in time for lunch at basecamp and enjoy a leisurely afternoon kayak.

Overnight at your glamping camp in Blackfish Sound.

Day 6 – Kayaking Blackfish Sound and Return to Quadra Island
Soak it all in on your final day of exploration in Blackfish Sound. Image a spray of water shooting from a whale breeching nearby. Your memories from this adventure will leave you in awe. After a morning paddle a water taxi takes you back to Quadra Island for the evening.

Overnight on Quadra Island.

Day 7 – Quadra Island at Leisure
There’s always more time to enjoy your supernatural, beautiful BC surroundings. Quadra Island is yours to explore today, with an extensive activity menu you can choose from. Watch grizzly bears, rent a bike, go golfing, or embark on an exhilarating zodiac tour!

Overnight on Quadra Island.

Day 8 – Quadra Island to Vancouver
You will be flying over the islands, sea and mountains once more as you return to the vibrant coastal city of Vancouver. One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Vancouver is surrounded by towering mountains and sparkling ocean. With plenty to explore from historic Gastown to vibrant Granville Island food market, and of course Stanley Park – a green oasis on the edge of Vancouver’s bustling West End, there’s no shortage of things to do with your family on the last day of your vacation.

Common Questions

Where am I staying on this trip?

You'll be staying at various local three to five start hotels or lodges along your route, some of which are very iconic properties with great locations, views and history. All our accommodations are carefully selected by our Canadian Insiders. We'll make sure that wherever you stay, you get the best value and comfort based on the seasonal availability.

What is included in the price?

Typically we include and pre-book all your main trip components so you don't have to worry about your connections, places to stay, or activities on your trip. You'll receive a complete travel package with detailed documentation and our Canadian Insiders remain at your disposal before and during your trip to answer your questions.

Can I customize this trip?

Your trip can be as rich as you'd like, and completely arranged around your interests and needs. The greatest benefit of working with us is our local knowledge. You can request your free trip plan to decide what you'd like to see and do.

If your trip is a special occasion, we'll make sure it is unforgettable. Or if you're traveling with a group, we'll take care of the logistics so you can share time together stress-free.

What are the best ways to travel around Canada?

Canada has a network of spectacular roadways, train routes, ferry crossings, and float planes. We can arrange for you to travel by car or to sit back and relax.

When is the best time to see wildlife?

That depends on the destination and type. As a rule, the main feeding and migration seasons are best for wildlife experiences. Tell us which animals interest you and we'll make your trip coincide with the best viewing season.

Is this an escorted tour?

With the exception of our guided wildlife trips, our vacations are not typically 'escorted.' We combine the best of both worlds – the reassurance of seamless connections, customer service support, and scheduled activities, plus the freedom of 'independent' travel. You are not tied into a specific group, or a rigid daily itinerary. This allows us to personalize your trip to suit your occasion, interests, and timeframe.

Will it be cold when I visit Canada in summer?

The temperature varies from mild to hot, depending on location. Northern Canada will range between 50°F to 64°F (10°C – 18°C) in summer. The interior of BC, prairies, Ontario and Quebec can reach temperatures around 95°F (35°C). Canada's west coast, mountain regions, and Maritimes enjoy milder summer temperatures. They range on average from 59°F to 77°F (15°C – 25°C).

How much does my trip cost?

All our trips can be customized to fit your schedule and budget. The price depends on travel season, train service, hotel level, and the sightseeing tours you choose. Request your free trip plan which will provide you with a detailed cost estimate.

Disconnect from hectic every-day life, then reconnect with your loved ones on this incredible family wilderness adventure. Stay in beautiful safari tents amidst towering fir trees. Hear the ocean lapping at your doorstep and the occasional blow of passing whales. You’ll explore sea creatures great and small by day, then spend the evening around the campfire telling stories and sharing laughter.
