Common Questions

  • Is this an escorted tour?

Our vacations are not typically 'escorted.' We combine the best of both worlds – the reassurance of seamless connections, customer service support, and scheduled activities, plus the freedom of 'independent' travel. You are not tied into a specific group, or a rigid daily itinerary. This allows us to personalize your trip to suit your occasion, interests, and timeframe.

  • Can this trip be made shorter or longer?

Absolutely! We personalize all our clients' trips to fit their exact tastes and needs. You can add days at locations that you'd like to explore and spend more time at. Or leave out certain areas that don't interest you as much. Discuss your travel goals with our Canadian Insiders who make sure that your trip fits your needs and budget.

  • Can I customize this trip?

Your trip can be as rich as you'd like, and completely arranged around your interests and needs. The greatest benefit of working with us is our local knowledge. You can get your FREE personalized trip plan and decide what you'd like to see and do.

If your trip is a special occasion, we'll make sure it is unforgettable. Or if you're traveling with a group, we'll take care of the logistics so you can share time together stress-free.

  • Am I on the train the whole time?

All of our trips include stops to get off the train to explore Canada's beautiful locations, national parks and unique cities. However, if you're keen to maximize your time onboard, we'll pair you up with the perfect train experience.

  • Is it safe to drive in Canada?

New visitors will drive with ease because of the wide and well maintained roadways. We'll ensure your trip includes the most spectacular and safest routes throughout your trip.

  • Where am I staying on this trip?

You'll be staying at various local three to five star hotels or lodges along your route, some of which are very iconic properties with great locations, views and history. All our accommodations are carefully selected by our Canadian Insiders. We'll make sure that wherever you stay, you get the best value and comfort based on the seasonal availability.

  • What is the train experience like?

Because most Canadians typically do not use the train for commuting (as in the US or Europe), the two main rail providers here are driven by tourism. You'll experience the romance of true trans-continental rail travel, with a wide selection of services, accommodation types, and great food.

    Featured train experiences:

VIA Rail is Canada's national train provider, with routes running Coast to Coast and through remote parts of northern Canada. The type of train depends on your journey, and can vary from the classic trans-continental sleeper trains to daylight trains with overnight stops.

  • How much does my trip cost?

All our trips are personalized to fit our clients' schedule and budget. The price of your trip generally depends on the travel season, train service, accommodations, and the sightseeing tours you take. Please request your personalized quote which will provide you with the detailed information you need.

  • What is included in the price?

Typically we include and pre-book all your main trip components so you don't have to worry about your connections, places to stay, or activities on your trip. You'll receive your detailed digital travel documents, and our Canadian Insiders remain at your disposal throughout your trip to answer any questions.

  • What are the best ways to travel around Canada?

Canada has a network of spectacular roadways, train routes, ferry crossings, and float planes. We can arrange for you to travel by car or to sit back and relax.

  • When is the best time to see wildlife?

That depends on the destination and type. As a rule, the main feeding and migration seasons are best for wildlife experiences. Tell us which animals interest you and we'll make your trip coincide with the best viewing season.

  • Will it be cold when I visit Canada in summer?

The temperature varies from mild to hot, depending on location. Canada's west coast, mountain regions, and Maritimes enjoy milder summer temperatures. They range on average from 59°F to 77°F (15°C – 25°C). The interior of British Columbia, prairies, Ontario and Quebec can reach temperatures around 95°F (35°C). Northern Canada will range between 50°F to 64°F (10°C – 18°C) in summer.

Thank you so much for a great Vacation

We enjoyed every minute of our experience in BC and Alberta. We are interested in returning for the Vancouver to Calgary itinerary one day. I understand that Rocky Mountaineer runs that route. We are 'singing your praises' for a trip well done to all our travel friends in Florida. You attended to all the details that made it perfect. The limo service could not have been better. Such helpful and nice young men! Rocky Mountaineer and BC Ferries... WOW. You have spoiled us for anything but the best in the future. Georgian Court Hotel was wonderful. Excursions were fun and educational for us. Thank you for the surprise of wine for our last evening in Vancouver. We all toasted you for a job well done. We owned a travel agency in the 80's and I remember the hard work involved in planning these vacations. You made it seem so simple!

    Everything was beyond our expectations

We want to tell you how much we enjoyed the travel arrangements you made for us. Everything was beyond our expectations. The extra arrangements, such as the cabin on the BC Ferries, transportation transfers, and room upgrades, just made it more enjoyable. The most notable parts included the Rocky Mountaineer and the BC Ferries – much nicer than we ever expected. We had exceptionally good weather, with rain only in Jasper for the boat tour on Lake Maligne and one part of the ferry ride. We had clear days for a rare view of the complete Mount Robson, the grizzly bears and eagles out of Prince Rupert, Vancouver from Grouse Mountain, all of the scenery along the VIA Rail route, and much of the inland passage. We visited Capilano Suspension Bridge on our last day and had a very enjoyable morning before our flights home. And we certainly enjoyed the bottles of wine in our rooms on our last night in Vancouver. I am very glad I called you to make these custom travel arrangements. Thank you very much.

Thank you for arranging a truly spectacular trip

It was truly a wonderful trip! We are now completely exhausted and feel we now need a real vacation. We do want to give you some feedback. But first, thank you for arranging a truly spectacular Canadian Rockies trip with the add-on of a Seattle cruise at the end. Features of the trip – The Vancouver City Highlights Tour, Museum of Anthropology and Sutton Place Hotel were all well worth experiencing. We had been to the museum before, and were determined to enjoy it again, so we thank you for that. Although it's a bit out of the way, it is a truly spiritual experience (and we don't say that often), especially the thrilling modern sculpture illustrating the raven legend. Rocky Mountaineer, Vancouver to Jasper, was a sheer delight. We were wined, dined and coddled until it was quite embarrassing. The trip was worth it for the Rocky Mountaineer itself. It was the Gold Leaf Service that did it. One slight glitch was the location of the pickup for the Rocky Mountaineer—from a different hotel from the one where we were staying. Although the pickup point was specified in our detailed itinerary, that went by us, and it took an alert hotel desk clerk to notice the problem as we waited for the transfer to arrive to pick us up. He arranged for a cab to take us to the station. At the same time, he made sure that the fare would be paid for by your company. Nothing was lost, just a bit of anxiety. We actually wouldn't have been able to get to the pickup hotel (two sloping blocks away) on foot with all our baggage. Incidentally, it was very important to have Jack's 'roller' with us, and it was easily accommodated by everyone along the way. The Banff Tour, the gondola, and Lake Louise were jewels and the Banff Caribou Lodge was a good choice. Lake Louise deserves more time. For us, the ice explorer could have been omitted—too much transferring from one vehicle to another without great reward, as the ice, alas, is in retreat. Unfortunately, we were too exhausted to visit the Whyte Museum of the Rockies. Next time! After the Rocky Mountaineer, I am sure you can appreciate that the Via Rail was not up to the same standard. The food on sale was particularly dreadful but we know we were out of season in that regard. All other arrangements were well handled, and the viewing of the spectacular scenery was fine. The stop in Prince George was lackluster but we didn't expect otherwise. On the other hand, Prince Rupert was potentially an absolute jewel and deserved more time, especially since we were there on a Sunday when, as it turned out, everything was closed. Even the buses didn't run. We inquired about hiring a cab to visit the famous cannery somewhere out of town and were told that it would cost $100 for the trip there and back. We didn't feel that we could manage that. Also, the famous museum in town was also closed on Sunday so we missed both attractions in this unusually attractive town. Oh well, next time. The Inside Passage was scenic and relaxing, though we unfortunately did not meet up with even one whale. Again, next time. The bus trip from Port Hardy to Victoria was relaxing and scenic. Not much to see, as you probably know. Victoria is another Jewel and deserves more time. We especially enjoyed the tour of the town and the Royal BC Museum which you so kindly added to our itinerary. It matches the Vancouver Anthropology Museum and may even outdo it in certain ways especially when it comes to First Nation artifacts. We missed the Gardens due to fatigue. All the restaurants we visited were very good but I believe that two deserve special recognition. The Sala Thai in Vancouver serves exceptional Thai food and a Japanese Restaurant in Banff was unforgettable. We experienced one mishap on the trip. One night, at the Banff Caribou Lodge, we were awakened at about 12:30 AM by the fire alarm. Everybody came streaming out of their rooms sniffing for smoke, but it turned out to be a false alarm and we all fell back into bed. We were rewarded the next day by the hotel management who gave us a $15 credit for food on the hotel bill. You gave us a great trip for which we will always be beholden to you. You were the maker of it and our family and friends will hear all about it.

We had a terrific trip, everything went so smoothly we couldn't have asked for a more carefree time. My favorite part of the trip was Butchart Gardens and my husband absolutely loved the train trip. We can confirm the Canadian reputation of its residents being friendly and helpful, everyone we encountered was so pleasant. Thanks so much for helping make our anniversary so memorable!
