Common Questions

  • Is this an escorted tour?

Our vacations are not typically 'escorted.' We combine the best of both worlds – the reassurance of seamless connections, customer service support, and scheduled activities, plus the freedom of 'independent' travel. You are not tied into a specific group, or a rigid daily itinerary. This allows us to personalize your trip to suit your occasion, interests, and timeframe.

  • Can this trip be made shorter or longer?

Absolutely! We personalize all our clients' trips to fit their exact tastes and needs. You can add days at locations that you'd like to explore and spend more time at. Or leave out certain areas that don't interest you as much. Discuss your travel goals with our Canadian Insiders who make sure that your trip fits your needs and budget.

  • Can I customize this trip?

Your trip can be as rich as you'd like, and completely arranged around your interests and needs. The greatest benefit of working with us is our local knowledge. You can get your FREE personalized trip plan and decide what you'd like to see and do.

If your trip is a special occasion, we'll make sure it is unforgettable. Or if you're traveling with a group, we'll take care of the logistics so you can share time together stress-free.

  • Am I on the train the whole time?

All of our trips include stops to get off the train to explore Canada's beautiful locations, national parks and unique cities. However, if you're keen to maximize your time onboard, we'll pair you up with the perfect train experience.

  • Where am I staying on this trip?

This trip features an overnight rail journey, and you'll get a comfortable private cabin on the train for the duration of your train ride. The trains feature common lounge areas and dining cars where you can socialize with fellow travelers.

When not on the train, you'll be staying at various three to five star hotels or lodges along your route. All our accommodations are carefully selected by our Canadian Insiders. We'll make sure that wherever you stay, you get the best value and comfort based on the seasonal availability.

  • What is the train experience like?

Because most Canadians typically do not use the train for commuting (as in the US or Europe), the two main rail providers here are driven by tourism. You'll experience the romance of true trans-continental rail travel, with a wide selection of services, accommodation types, and great food.

    Featured train experiences:

Rocky Mountaineer operates daylight touring trains, which travel along three of the most spectacular routes in Western Canada. You'll enjoy onboard commentary, award winning service, and incredible food.

VIA Rail is Canada's national train provider, with routes running Coast to Coast and through remote parts of northern Canada. The type of train depends on your journey, and can vary from the classic trans-continental sleeper trains to daylight trains with overnight stops.

Sleeper Trains feature a once in a lifetime adventure of sleeping on the train in comfortable cabins. You can relax in your private onboard accommodations, or enjoy local wines and chef-prepared meals in the dining car during this unforgettable trip.

  • How much does my trip cost?

All our trips are personalized to fit our clients' schedule and budget. The price of your trip generally depends on the travel season, train service, accommodations, and the sightseeing tours you take. Please request your personalized quote which will provide you with the detailed information you need.

  • What is included in the price?

Typically we include and pre-book all your main trip components so you don't have to worry about your connections, places to stay, or activities on your trip. You'll receive your detailed digital travel documents, and our Canadian Insiders remain at your disposal throughout your trip to answer any questions.

  • What are the best ways to travel around Canada?

Canada has a network of spectacular roadways, train routes, ferry crossings, and float planes. We can arrange for you to travel by car or to sit back and relax.

  • When is the best time to see wildlife?

That depends on the destination and type. As a rule, the main feeding and migration seasons are best for wildlife experiences. Tell us which animals interest you and we'll make your trip coincide with the best viewing season.

  • Will it be cold when I visit Canada in summer?

The temperature varies from mild to hot, depending on location. Canada's west coast, mountain regions, and Maritimes enjoy milder summer temperatures. They range on average from 59°F to 77°F (15°C – 25°C). The interior of British Columbia, prairies, Ontario and Quebec can reach temperatures around 95°F (35°C). Northern Canada will range between 50°F to 64°F (10°C – 18°C) in summer.

Well, you certainly did create an extraordinary vacation for the us! Everything was perfect! Not one glitch or missed transfer. Everyone was where they were supposed to be at the appointed time, including us! We loved every minute and thank you for doing such a wonderful job. We especially loved that our 50th anniversary was acknowledged at every turn with chocolate strawberries, etc. and I'm sure some upgraded beautiful rooms. The scenery is beyond belief. From the forests of Ontario, to the prairies of Saskatchewan, we loved it. The Canadian Rockies speak for themselves. Thanks so much for all you did. Canada is a beautiful country.

We would like to thank you again for the surprise champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. That really started off our trip. We would like to thank you for our wonderful vacation experience as all the information that you sent to us was so well organized. Our trip was beyond our expectations. All hotels, tours and trains not only met but exceeded what we had hoped for. All hotels recognized our anniversary and upgraded us to a suite or a larger room. We felt like a king and queen and we were definitely spoiled. Upgrading to the GoldLeaf Rocky Mountaineer was a wonderful experience and totally first class. The staff was exceptional and the food was absolutely delicious. The Rocky Mountaineer honored our 50th Wedding Anniversary with a champagne lunch and gave us an autographed copy of the book "Unforgettable Journey -Stories from the Rocky Mountaineer" signed by the staff. We were totally surprised by their thoughtfulness. We were very fortunate to have the best weather during our 2 weeks and we were very lucky that our train rides ran pretty close to schedules. We have so many great memories but one of the highlights of our trip occurred in Jasper. We decided to take the motorcycle/side car tour and we were able to photograph a grizzly bear from the back of the Haney about 15 feet away eating dandelions. Unbelievable! Once again, we thank you for all you've done for making our anniversary trip a dream come true. Thanks for the memories.

Yesterday we reached Victoria after a wonderful trip you arranged for us from Toronto to Vancouver as part of our Canadian ocean-to-ocean excursion. We learned a lot and saw a lot of Canada, as we intended. All our arrangements including Fresh Track's went very well. We hiked in Nova Scotia and Lake Louise and walked a lot in Halifax, Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. The weather was mostly fine, only a few rainy days. The train accommodations were very comfortable. The luxurious Rocky Mountaineer was in a class with South Africa's Blue Train that we rode in 2011. We had lobsters in Nova Scotia and fine meals on the trains and in the hotels. The Royal York and Jasper Park Lodge were excellent, but our rooms at Chateau Lake Louise, Rim Rock, and Pan Pacific had fantastic views and were outstanding. We were surprised to have Peter of Imperial Global Chauffeur meet us on arrival at Vancouver and again transport us to our bus for Victoria.

Pre-trip: I would like to tell you how GREAT two of your employes have been. First, Georgia was a wonderful help in planning my trip making sure I had all the information. Any changes we made I was notified of the change right away. She was very pleasant on the phone and very customer friendly. Second, Jeremie emailed me 35 days before the trip to make sure all my questions were answered. This is service! If my trip goes the way these people have taken care of me I cannot help but have a good time. Post-trip: It was GREAT! We had a great time and there were no bad surprises. Your boss should be proud of you - your planning was some of the best I have ever been involved in. If you have anyone who is in doubt, just have them email or call me. I am so glad you put me into the Gold Leaf section, it was well worth the money!

A special thanks for informing the hotels in regards to our 39th wedding anniversary. It started with wine at the Westin, a spacious suite at the Sawridge Inn, a suite and champagne at the Fairmont Chateau, chocolate cherries and a suite at the Sutton Place, and a suite at the Hotel Grand Pacific. They all helped us celebrate this special occasion. The first sign that this was going to be a great trip was the timely pick up at the airport by Rosedale Livery. Excellent limo service from airport and to train station. All hotels were very good in their own way. Sundog Tours did a great job and we had small groups. The Toronto Bus Tour to the falls was good. The Pacific Coach Lines tour to Victoria exceeded my expectations. The driver took us to our hotel after the tour. The Rocky Mountaineer is a first class operation. The tour went very smoothly except the mountaineer was 2 hours early and we called the limo service who responded immediately. I know you were responsible for the almost perfect weather. The only fair day we had was in Toronto on the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus day. It poured down rain and we rode inside part of the day and took the boat around the lake. This was an excellent trip and I have no comments on ways to improve the logistics of covering the amount of territory in the time frame given. You did an excellent job and you have a good stable of service providers and hotels. Thanks!

Thank you for all of the wonderful service

We had a wonderful trip. The flooding in Alberta was a tragedy for those residents but only a minor inconvenience for us. Our thoughts are with them. You did a splendid job of alternate scheduling in Vancouver. LandSea Tours are excellent. We are veteran travellers and I must say that the Rocky Mountaineer experience is in the top of our list of enjoyment. We want to do Calgary – Kamloops – Quesnel – North Vancouver next. We realize that the itinerary will take some planning and perhaps extra nights somewhere but we know Fresh Tracks can accomplish it. Thank you for all of the wonderful service.

Just wanted to say thanks for organizing our trip. All the logistics worked very well and the Rocky Mountaineer ride was spectacular. The holiday exceeded our expectations and the service we received from all staff we met during the whole trip was excellent. We have recommended you to other UK friends who are planning this trip in the future.

Firstly we thank Fresh Tracks for the excellent organization of our trip and dealing so efficiently with the minor problem we had with our car rental. Travelling in winter does have its advantages as places are not overcrowded with people. This was advantageous on VIA Rail's the Canadian as there were only ten of us travelling in the sleepers. There was plenty of space in the domed viewing car and there was a 'family' feel to dining, where all the meals were of the highest quality, as we all ate at one sitting and made friends with all our fellow travellers and were fascinated by the tales and experiences they recounted to us! The VIA railway staff, from our beginning in Jasper right through to Quebec, which included two rail transfers, could not have been more helpful in giving us advice and pointing us in the right direction. The Winter Carnival in Quebec was fascinating and an experience not to be missed. There was so much to do and the events and activities suited all age ranges. Quebec City was an interesting place and really needed more time to explore but there is always another time. We found it interesting to see the different cultures between the Rockies and the Quebec region but found people very helpful in both areas despite our poor attempts at the French language. For a party of four 'oldies' a holiday like this, although tiring at times, was a great experience not to be missed! Again, thanks to Fresh Tracks for their organization of such a holiday.
