Common Questions

  • Is this an escorted tour?

Our vacations are not typically 'escorted.' We combine the best of both worlds – the reassurance of seamless connections, customer service support, and scheduled activities, plus the freedom of 'independent' travel. You are not tied into a specific group, or a rigid daily itinerary. This allows us to personalize your trip to suit your occasion, interests, and timeframe.

  • Can this trip be made shorter or longer?

Absolutely! We personalize all our clients' trips to fit their exact tastes and needs. You can add days at locations that you'd like to explore and spend more time at. Or leave out certain areas that don't interest you as much. Discuss your travel goals with our Canadian Insiders who make sure that your trip fits your needs and budget.

  • Can I customize this trip?

Your trip can be as rich as you'd like, and completely arranged around your interests and needs. The greatest benefit of working with us is our local knowledge. You can get your FREE personalized trip plan and decide what you'd like to see and do.

If your trip is a special occasion, we'll make sure it is unforgettable. Or if you're traveling with a group, we'll take care of the logistics so you can share time together stress-free.

  • Am I on the train the whole time?

All of our trips include stops to get off the train to explore Canada's beautiful locations, national parks and unique cities. However, if you're keen to maximize your time onboard, we'll pair you up with the perfect train experience.

  • Where am I staying on this trip?

This trip features an overnight rail journey, and you'll get a comfortable private cabin on the train for the duration of your train ride. The trains feature common lounge areas and dining cars where you can socialize with fellow travelers.

When not on the train, you'll be staying at various three to five star hotels or lodges along your route. All our accommodations are carefully selected by our Canadian Insiders. We'll make sure that wherever you stay, you get the best value and comfort based on the seasonal availability.

  • What is the train experience like?

Because most Canadians typically do not use the train for commuting (as in the US or Europe), the two main rail providers here are driven by tourism. You'll experience the romance of true trans-continental rail travel, with a wide selection of services, accommodation types, and great food.

    Featured train experiences:

VIA Rail is Canada's national train provider, with routes running Coast to Coast and through remote parts of northern Canada. The type of train depends on your journey, and can vary from the classic trans-continental sleeper trains to daylight trains with overnight stops.

Sleeper Trains feature a once in a lifetime adventure of sleeping on the train in comfortable cabins. You can relax in your private onboard accommodations, or enjoy local wines and chef-prepared meals in the dining car during this unforgettable trip.

  • How much does my trip cost?

All our trips are personalized to fit our clients' schedule and budget. The price of your trip generally depends on the travel season, train service, accommodations, and the sightseeing tours you take. Please request your personalized quote which will provide you with the detailed information you need.

  • What is included in the price?

Typically we include and pre-book all your main trip components so you don't have to worry about your connections, places to stay, or activities on your trip. You'll receive your detailed digital travel documents, and our Canadian Insiders remain at your disposal throughout your trip to answer any questions.

  • What are the best ways to travel around Canada?

Canada has a network of spectacular roadways, train routes, ferry crossings, and float planes. We can arrange for you to travel by car or to sit back and relax.

  • When is the best time to see wildlife?

That depends on the destination and type. As a rule, the main feeding and migration seasons are best for wildlife experiences. Tell us which animals interest you and we'll make your trip coincide with the best viewing season.

  • Will it be cold when I visit Canada in summer?

The temperature varies from mild to hot, depending on location. Canada's west coast, mountain regions, and Maritimes enjoy milder summer temperatures. They range on average from 59°F to 77°F (15°C – 25°C). The interior of British Columbia, prairies, Ontario and Quebec can reach temperatures around 95°F (35°C). Northern Canada will range between 50°F to 64°F (10°C – 18°C) in summer.

I would have never found these hidden gems had I tried to arrange my own trip

What I liked is that there were no worries. We had never been to this part of the continent and everything unfolded precisely as the itinerary said it would. I also liked the hotels and their proximity to what we wanted to see. I would have never found these hidden gems, had I tried to arrange my own trip.

I liked the reliability and efficiency of it all

In a single word: Wonderful! I liked the reliability and efficiency of it all and the professionalism of everybody that we came in contact with. Loved the hotels and their locations. I never could have done that and would have ended up in brand-named hotels. My wife put at the top of her list the Bury Your Dead tour in Quebec City. This is a tour based on a mystery novel set in QC that's quite popular in both U.S. and Canada based on tour participants who came from as far away as BC and CA. Though this tour was not on your normal itinerary, you were flexible enough to include it for us. I think I enjoyed seeing a part of Canada that is so different from anyplace in the U.S. I liked the efficiency and reliability of it all.

The vacation was great! Fresh Tracks Canada was outstanding, from hotels to limousine service to guided tours, and we had plenty of time to enjoy the cities on our own. It was truly swanky! Our hotel in Montreal was absolutely stunning! Honestly, luxury all the way! The bus tour was nice and the driver was fun and knowledgable. The basilisk and overlook were beautiful! Quebec was beyond-words-beautiful, romantic, quaint. It was definitely my favorite. Even though French is the predominant language there, everyone in the service industry speaks English as well, so we had no trouble communicating. Everyone greeted us by saying "Bonjour, Hi!" The food was phenomenal and I miss it already. The country tour was absolutely fabulous! I loved the chocolate factory, the bread baker, the copper crafter, the waterfalls, and the Ste. Anne-de-Beaupré shrine (stunningly beautiful). The tour guide was amazing. Halifax was gorgeous. I spent some time walking in the gardens there and visited the citadel, the harbor shops, and took the ferry to Dartmouth. The Peggy's Cove tour was my favorite in Halifax. I was ready for some small town time and would have loved to spend more time there or in a similar location. Throughout the trip the tour guides and drivers were exceptional and are to be commended. The hotels were top of the line. The folks at Fresh Tracks did a great job. I will definitely recommend Fresh Tracks Canada to others and will likely be a return customer.

We have returned from our wonderful trip to Halifax from Montreal and wanted you to know how much we enjoyed it. One of the highlights was the guided tour in Halifax and surrounding areas. Our guide went out of his way to make that day very special for us and our granddaughter - not only showing us the planned itinerary but also adding and responding to some special wishes and interests. He was punctual, very polite, very knowledgeable as well as a safe and confident driver.  He spent a long day taking us to Lunenburg, Peggy's Cove and other places along that beautiful coast, introducing us to a "shack" where we indulged in a lobster feast (even showing our granddaughter how to conquer the beast) and taking time to introduce us to the local architecture and some of its history. Since this tour took all day and he had another evening commitment he offered to return the next day to show us more of Halifax city before our flight back to Montreal.  Thank you for doing your part in making it a wonderful trip.

The whole experience was one to remember (except for the rain which you can't control... or can you? You certainly took care of everything else!) I was amazed that everything was taken care of, transfer people met us when they were supposed to, hotels all knew we were coming and at what time even the rental car company was ready and waiting! VIA rail was outstanding and certainly deserved to be the centerpiece of the whole trip (although I still need to learn how to sleep while moving). Too much to see and wonderful people to meet may have contributed to my un-sleepiness. Even the small snag of having to change where we were staying on PEI was taken care of with no issues. Louise did a masterful job of rebooking for an unforeseen problem. It must have been a very trying affair for her on short notice. The Warn B&B in Summerside was perfect. It didn't take us long to realize that Glenn and Sally Lee from Wisconsin were on the same tour. Great travel companions and good people. They have used Fresh Tracks before and continue to do so. Speaks volumes about your abilities and what they can expect. In short, thank you Anjuli and Fresh Tracks for all you did.

Many thanks to you both for making this lovely trip a reality

Other that the unsatisfactory hotel in Montreal, the tour was wonderful! The dinner at the Bonaparte Restaurant helped us forget the uncomfortable room. Special highlights of the trip included the train to La Malbaie. The food and service were outstanding. The wait staff were knowledgeable and extremely personable, making the trip fun. This trip is a real gem and I hope you encourage others to include this in their tour package. By far the best part of the tour was our time spent in Halifax! The tours of Peggy's Cove and Bay of Fundi were full of local information thanks to our local guide who knew the area well. We did not know that a picnic lunch made from local produce and products was included both days. What fun. Again, the tours included extra sites and plenty of time to explore. I would use this tour company again for any future trips to the area. We do plan on returning to Canada at some point to explore Cape Bretton Island, New Brunswick and other local spots. I even had a moment of 'fame' on this trip as I was filmed by the local TV station in Halifax to introduce the weatherman. Many thanks to you both for making this lovely trip a reality.

Everyone we met in Canada was friendly

Our timing for the trip was perfect as we were in Canada for Canada Day and Quebec City Birthday. There were lots of extra events and we ended up cancelling our rental cars as they were unnecessary. Connie lost her engagement ring (she never takes it off) while in Niagara but didn't notice it until we were at the Soho in Toronto. The Bellman and Staff at the Soho could not have been nicer or more understanding! They went above and beyond anything we could have expected in searching the streets, filing police reports and searching the room for us after we left. The Soho room was a 5-star room and the staff were excellent beyond question. Miracle of miracles and luckily for us, the Falls View Marriott housekeeping staff found Connie's ring in the laundry, called Connie and took extra steps to get the ring back to us via FedEx. Getting jewelry from Canada to the US was nearly as difficult as getting our check to you. The USPS/customs officials returned the Express Mail package with the ring with a note that shipping jewelry was forbidden. Thankfully, a member of the house keeping staff had experience with this, sent it by FedEx and we got the ring back the same day we got home from Halifax. This was a great trip and except for the three days that Connie was distraught because she thought she had lost her ring forever. The honesty of the Marriott staff is beyond reproach and we can't thank them enough for what they did for us. Everyone we met in Canada was friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make the trip everything we could have wanted. We have lots of photos and fond memories from the trip. The prices in Canada are 50% higher than the US which we were not expecting but the food was excellent across the board with no bad meals or experiences worthy of note. The overnight VIA Rail to Halifax was one and half hours late because of an overheated sleeper car and the Charney Train Station is a country train station with no A/C, few chairs and only one very friendly and helpful woman to check in close to 100 people – she deserves a medal for patience, efficiency and cheerfulness despite the heat and confused passengers, each and every one of them, asking the same questions 5 or 6 times before really believing the route of travel of the train. It was exceedingly hot (90+ degrees that night) with only a slight breeze making for a very long and tedious wait – Mother Nature was not helpful and friendly that night. The overnight train was fun even though the train ended up being two and a half hours late into Halifax as a result of the extreme heat and rail expansion issues. The VIA Rail attendants were excellent and explained the reason for the delays and we still got to Halifax. It was a fun experience that we really enjoyed and I highly recommend Business Travel and upgraded hotel rooms – thank you for recommending them.

My husband and I visited Montreal, Quebec City and Halifax with Fresh Tracks Canada in May of 2013. We had a wonderful experience with Fresh Tracks taking care of all the details. We did have to pay for flight to Montreal from North Carolina but were met at the airport by a limousine that took us to our hotel. The hotels selected by Fresh Tracks were fantastic. We stayed at the Hotel Place d'Armes which is in the heart of Old Montreal. We had a corner room with 4 windows overlooking the Place D'Armes and across from Notre Dame. The hotel had a beautiful rooftop restaurant and bar with spectacular views. Our experience in Montreal was surreal. The tours of the city, planned by Fresh Tracks were great and very educational. After three nights, we were picked up by a limousine and taken to the train station. We had a business class ticket on Via Rail with spacious seating and a delicious 3 course meal was served with complimentary beverages and wine. Very enjoyable. We were again met at the train station in Quebec City by a limousine and taken to our hotel, which was the very good 71 Hotel Cafe. Quebec City was full of history and beautiful sites, good tours, excellent for photographs. We stayed there 2 nights, and free breakfast was provided at every hotel. We again were met by a limousine and taken to the train station for an overnight trip to Halifax. This trip was about 18 hours long but very comfortable with a panorama (Dome) car. This train was old and the shower did not work, but this was not a problem. Our time in Halifax was wonderful and we enjoyed our stay at the excellent Halliburton Hotel. Town Limousine service was perfect. All transportation was arranged by Fresh Tracks, timely, and mostly included gratuities. We recommend Fast Tracks Canada for everyone!

Absolutely fantastic holiday, in no small part due to your work. All of the transfers were completely seamless and both trains and accommodation were first class. It would never have been possible for us to organise such a trip alone. Many thanks and I will certainly be reccomending you to all here in Ireland who are thinking of going to Canada on holiday. Best and thanks!
